Paper Sweeties April Release Rewind!

It's Release Rewind time at Paper Sweeties, when we showcase the new releases paired with previously released stamps. I can't decide if this is a difficult task or an easy one for me, because you could easily pair any of the Paper Sweeties stamp sets and come up with a fab card, so narrowing down which ones to use can be a dilemma!

I used both the new release sets, Tree of Life and Tree of Life Add-On: Spring, along with four other sets to make my card: Sophie, I Pick You, Spring is Here, and Feel Better Soon. Sophie's shirt and shoes came from the Feel Better Soon set. I just trimmed off the bottom of the dress to make a shirt. The shorts and frog are from the I Pick You set (that little frog just cracks me up!), where I lopped off the overalls to make a pair of shorts, and the sentiment came from the Spring is Here set. I created the background by tearing a piece of paper to use as a mask and sponging Mowed Lawn Distress Ink on the bottom of the cardstock and Broken China ink on the top. Sophie is colored with Copics. I added more detail to her eyes and I'm trying to learn to color cheeks with a little more dimension. ;)

This is a good card for someone with an April birthday. I created the inside sentiment on Word, printed it in reverse onto a transparency, then rubbed it onto the cardstock.

Paper Sweeties April Inspiration Challenge #30 - 'Hoppy Easter'

I don't know about you, but lately I had been feeling like winter would never end. Now, here it is, Spring--almost Easter! How does that happen? I hope it's not an April Fool's joke! ;)

Well, it's no joke that it's time for the Paper Sweeties April Inspiration Challenge: Hoppy Easter! And, I had a blast making this card.

If you are familiar with Paper Sweeties images, you already noticed that Abigail's eyes look different. As with a card I posted yesterday, I was inspired to try my hand at adding eye detail by Jane at Jane's Box of Colours. My detail is nothing like hers, but it's a start. ;) I also added folds to Abigail's paper pieced dress, from the Jelly Bean Time stamp set, using Copics, and gave her a satin sash with a gold Spica pen.

I used the Viva la Verve March 2015 Week 3 sketch for the card design, but instead of using a skinny fishtail banner under the bow, I cut a fishtail window to make a shaker. I have only made one other shaker card, but I just love Paper Sweeties sequins (Jellybeans is my favorite!), and the best way to be able to use lots of them is in a shaker. My Teamies often make beautiful shaker cards, like here, here, here, here, and here.

On the inside, I sponged Distress Ink around the edges of a piece of green cardstock, then masked off the center and stamped a spatter design in white pigment ink, stitched three banners to the top, then stamped a sentiment and cute little flower from the Bloom & Grow set.

Paper Sweeties March Release Countdown!

I'm back with another Paper Sweeties card for the March Release Countdown! I used the new I Pick You stamp set to give Abigail a little flower garden.

I colored the flowers, butterflies, basket and Abigail images with Copics, cut Abigail out with her very own Sweet Cuts die, and fussy cut the other images. I gave Abigail some plaid overalls with paper from a Little Yellow Bicycle paper pad, and fancied them up with a pretty Creamsicle sequin. Liquid Pearls accent the centers of the flowers. I colored each of the butterflies differently, then added white paint pen to one, and Stickles to the other two. To keep their wings raised, I used a little bit of transparent Pearl Pen under each one. The sentiment is heat embossed with white embossing powder.

A couple more flowers and a butterfly brighten up the white panel inside.

Fresh Brewed Guest Designer

Did you notice anything new when you got here today? I spent the past few days revamping my blog for a fresh look. My friend, Deborah, helped me get going, and soon, she's going to help me add a few other new features, too! I can hardly wait!

But, in the meantime, I've been anxiously waiting for today to get here. I'm the Guest Designer over at the Fresh Brewed Designs Challenge Blog today! I found Fresh Brewed a couple of months ago, and I'm so glad I did. Heather, the owner of Fresh Brewed Designs, has both rubber and digital stamps in over 30 categories, as well as digi paper, in a wide variety of cute designs. When she asked me to be a Guest Designer for this month, I had my pick of three images to use for my GD cards, and I have to tell you, it was tough to narrow my choices down! You'll see what I mean! ;)




Heather has a Brew of the Month Challenge every month where you can choose your challenge of either a sketch, a photo inspiration, or both. (There's still time to enter this month--you have until March 31). For my first card, I used the sketch. And, as I seem to do with every sketch I use lately, I turned it on it's side.

For my first card, I used this sweet Watermelon Girl digi image. Is she not the cutest thing? :) I colored her with Copic markers and used a piece of terry cloth and Colorless Blender on the watermelon to give it a little texture. I also added Black Liquid Pearl to the seeds, and Glossy Accents to her little ponytail holders and her shoes. I got out my Gelatos again, and made the watermelon paper. The "seeds" were added with Inktense pencils. After cutting it with a Labels 25 die, I sponged Black Soot ink around the edges. I used the Opulent Ovals die set to cut a black frame for the colored image, and I backed it with the same green paper that I used as the bg. The "Sweet" flag was cut with a Verve flag die, then I spritzed it with Fresh Lime and Vibrant Turquiose Dylusions Ink Spray, and sponged Mowed Lawn Distress Ink around the edges before attaching it to the framed image with a floral brad. The textured strip across the middle was cut with a Simon Says Circle Border die, and I used strips of black cs to border the die cut.

I used the scraps from the watermelon paper on the front to give some color and interest to the inside.

For my second card, I used the photo inspiration from this month's FBD challenge, and did a little computer manipulation to the digital images first...

The minute I saw Bob and Betty in Heather's store, I knew I just had to have them! They are actually completely separate digital images, but by making the "sky" transparent, I was able to merge the images together. Heather did such a great job drawing these images, they went together perfectly! I didn't even have to do any resizing! I paper pieced Bob and Betty's swimsuits, then colored the image with Copics. I have to tell you, this was a blast to color. Can you see their sunburns, and Bob's farmer's tan? And, don't you just LOVE the expression on Bob's face? He's definitely "Living in the Moment," isn't he? ;) I used a cloud stencil for the sky, sponged in the sun, added in some white highlights to the water, and drew in the birds in the background. I used a Wink of Stella pen to add shimmer to the sun, and a little "sweat" to Bob and Betty. The rims of their glasses were colored with gold and silver Spica pens, and I used Glossy Accents on their lens, and also on the chocolate on the ice cream cone. 

For the layout of this card, I used Sugar Pea Design's very first Sugar Sketch. I used a weathered wood dp, distressed the edges with a Distrezz-it-All, cut two flags out of the same dp I used for the paper pieced swimsuits, stamped a tag with a Live in the Moment sentiment, which I traced with a gold Spica pen for sparkle, added a little twine, die cut the image and another circle for a mat and put it all together. And, I have the perfect couple to send this card too! ;~D

I kept the inside a little plain, with just a strip of the weathered wood dp, some sponging around the rectangular panel, and a couple of gold lines drawn with a Spica pen.

Timeless Tuesday #259: Polka Dots

This week, Jenny is our hostess, and she has given us a fun, but simple challenge.  Just use polka dots! See...Easy Peasy!

I had so much fun making this card! I did some stamping with two different Flourishes stamp sets, some heat embossing, paper piecing, distressing, and sewing, and used six different dp's, including, of course, a cute polka dot pattern, and came up with a sweet card to surprise a friend whom I enjoy coffee with after we drop the kids off at school. Well, sometimes it's just coffee, but often it includes breakfast, maybe a trip to the mall, occasionally even lunch, before the "morning" is over. ;) She's a great friend, that's for sure, and I love spending time with her! The Viva la Verve February 2014 Week 1 sketch, turned on it's side, was perfect for this card, as I thought the two circle layers looked like coasters. I used the So Distressed stamp set (still in stock, so hurry, if you want it!) to add coffee rings and a few splotches to them in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. For the cups, I first cut them on my Silhouette, using Flourishes Grab a Cup Silhouette Cut File, and stamped the image (unfortunately, already out of stock) in Rich Cocoa Memento Ink. Then I stamped the cup images onto 2 different dps in Rich Cocoa ink, fussy cut the pieces and glued them to the white stamped base. The cute little coffee cup "logo" on the cups is part of the stamp set. I just colored it with Copic markers. It's hard to see in the photo, but I used CollAll 3-D glue to raise just the outer edges of the cups to give them a little bit of dimension. I stamped the coffee beans, also in the Grab a Cup set, multiple times on the newsprint dp, and heat embossed the "COFFEE" text in brown ep, adding the ellipsis with a Versamark pen.

On the inside, I stamped the sentiment with Rich Cocoa ink, adding the dots with a Sharpie marker, then punched zig zag strips from four of the dp's to jazz it up a bit. I sponged Vintage Photo ink around the edge of the panel, and over the exposed white edge to the left of the zig zag strips.

Timeless Tuesday #240: Paper Piecing

So... let's find out what the lovely Broni has in store for our contest and challenge today...

         

As soon as I saw the new That's A Wrap stamp set, I knew I would be paper piecing it. It's the perfect image for paper piecing, with all the layers of loops, tails, and strips of ribbon, and absolutely any dp would work!

I wanted to use a striped dp for my image, so I had to stamp the bow several times to make sure the stripes all went along the length of the ribbon of each loop and tail. I probably could have gotten away with stamping it three times (once for each diagonal set of loops, once for the tails, and once for the center of the bow). But, I didn't want the stripes to cut straight across and end up looking like a giant "X". So, instead, I stamped it seven times, just inking up the parts I needed, and being careful to stamp so that the stripes were always lengthwise on the ribbon--once for each individual loop and tail, and for the center. And, of course I stamped the strips of ribbon, then fussy cut everything. I colored the inside of the loops with a YG63 Copic marker from Flourishes' Olive Green Copic Sketch Collection, and added a little shading to the parts of the ribbon that "curved" around the edges of the card, and also on the inner and outer edges of the loops. You can't tell in the photo, but before I assembled the bow, I turned each piece over and embossed them with a stylus to give the bow a little poof. :) The holly leaves and berries are also colored with Copics, and I did a little stylus embossing on them, first from the back, then again from the front, where I ran the stylus down the center of each leaf. I added Glossy Accents to the berries to give them a little more dimension and shine. To maintain the dimension on all the pieces, I used CollAll 3D glue. For more sparkle, I added a few berry colored rhinestones to the bg and tag.

I used "Patch" cardstock from Flourishes Color Made Easy Pistachio Paper Collection for my bg. I embossed it with an embossing folder, then sanded over it with a sanding block. I wish you could feel this card. It has a very tactile quality, with the embossed images and velvety texture of the sanded cs. :)

I used the same dp for a scalloped frame around my sentiment panel, stamped the sentiment (from the Country Time Christmas stamp set) twice with two shades of green ink to give it a shadow, and embossed and sanded another piece of Patch cs for a bg.

This was so much fun to create, and while it took a little longer to make sure all the pieces were aligned just right on the dp, it was totally worth it.

Time With You

Hi Friends! Hope you're having a good weekend. I know it's still a while until it's here, but I've got a Father's Day card to share with you today.

The chair and sentiment stamps are from Flourishes, and the copper embellies are brads. I paper pieced the chair cushions and colored the rest with Copics. I used Distress Ink for the shadow under the chair.

I created the inside sentiment in Word and printed it directly onto the cardstock.

Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge #142: The Bottom Line

Hi Friends! Here we are again, with another Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge! Take a look at Melissa's sketch:

I love using lots of different patterned papers together, and this sketch is perfect for a little mix-n-match. And, you have got to check out this week's sponsor: Raisin Boat. Raisin Boat is a unique company, in that they offer 200+ exclusive sets of stamps for purchase, brand-new, or for rental on a month-to-month basis--or both. How cool is that!

Bobbi and Kim, co-owners of Raisin Boat, were kind enough to send the DT stamps for this week's challenge, and I received one called, "Undies in a Bunch." I had a lot of choices with this set because it has sentiments for birthdays and encouragement, and several "undie" choices. I opted to make a masculine encouragement card. 

I paper pieced the boxers and colored the clothespins with a Copic marker, and all the dp's I chose seemed like good patterns for boxer shorts. The sketch called for 3 embellies, but I opted to put eyelets in the three dp panels and lace them with twine.

I randomly stamped all the different undie stamps on the inside sentiment panel and stamped half the inside sentiment over them. The last half of the inside sentiment, I stamped in white ink, directly on the dp, and embossed it with white embossing powder. Aren't all those undies cute? :)

Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge #136: Sweet & Sassy

Happy Tuesday, Friends! Yes, happy is a good word for Tuesday because it's time for a new Tuesday Morning Sketch (TMS136). This week's sponsor is Guylou's Inimitability Digistamps, and our very own Marie designed the sketch.

I used the Eve digistamp, and Eve reminds me of the 1970's, with her bellbottoms and giant dangly loop earrings. I had the perfect paper--Hippie Chic, from DCWV--so I decided to paper piece at least part of her outfit. You would think paper piecing would be difficult with a digital stamp, but it's not. For this image, I printed Eve onto a piece of white cs to use as my base. Then I printed the image again onto white paper. I had a piece of cs that had strips of different dp's on one sheet, so I cut out the section I wanted to use, taped it to the white paper, lining up the dividing line between the two different dp patterns with the line on the image just above Eve's knees. I ran the paper back through the printer, printing the exact same image onto the patterned dp, and then cut out the pants from the dp. I did all my Copic coloring before attaching the pants to the image, and I used Copics to add a touch of shadow to the pants.

I used gold and silver Stickles for Eve's earrings and necklace, and for the rest of the card, I used dp from the same Hippie Chic stack. I just love the retro look! I mostly stuck to the sketch, but I really wanted to use the orange plaid cs on this card, so I trimmed my image as much as I could, and added the plaid as an extra layer to frame the image. It completely changed the look of the card, and brightened it up a lot. The "Sweet and Sassy" sentiment is from a Just Rite stamp set called, Topsy Turvy Cakes. I embossed the oval with a navy embossing powder, stamped the sentiment in orange, sponged a tiny bit of color around the inside of the embossed oval, then covered the entire area inside the embossed area with Glossy Accents.

For the inside, I punched a border from the orange plaid dp and attached it to the top of white cs, matted with navy. Then, I stamped a "sassy" birthday cake image and "Celebrate" sentiment (both from the Topsy Turvy set) in the lower right corner. I used a yellow Copic to add just a few bright touches to the flowers on the cake. This would make a great birthday card for a teenage girl, I think.

You Take My Breath Away

Happy Wednesday, Blog Friends! I hope you've been having a good week. I'm still on a high from the convention this past weekend, so my week has been terrific! :)

With only one week left before Valentine's Day, though, I decided I better get busy with my Valentine cards, so that's what I have to share with you today.

The sketch is from the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #151, and the Our Craft Lounge Blog challenge #103 is to use images that take us "Up In the Air," which was perfect for me because when I won the Lily Pad Palette Color Challenge about a week ago, OCL was the sponsor and one of the stamps I got was an adorable hot air balloon called "Spilling Over."

I paper pieced the balloon with black and tan dp's and used a dp for the background that is covered in mathematical equations. I used black waxed linen thread between the different pieces of the balloon and to connect the balloon to the basket. The red heart on the balloon was colored with Copics, adhered, then covered with Glossy Accents.

For the basket and spilled hearts, I colored them with Copic markers then added Stickles to the hearts. The entire balloon and basket are popped up with foam dots. I glued the spilled hearts to the card, in lieu of the three embellies on the sketch.

My goal was to end up with a masculine Valentine card. I think it works for that.
