Book Lover

Good afternoon. I'm just tickled pink with the card I have to share with you today. It's for the Saturday Sketch Challenge #24, which I turned sideways. I not only used a pretty pink ribbon, paper, and ink, I also used a Flourishes stamp (From the Desk of) with books in it and a sentiment about writing, and I confess...I am a bibliophile. Books = Happy! If you've ever been inside my house, you'd know that right away, because this is the first room you would see : 

I have loved books for as long as I can remember, have been collecting them for about thirty years, and when we moved to this house a few years ago, I was lucky enough to get this living room-turned-library to hold most of my book collection. My love of books may have something to do with my love of cardmaking. It's all about the paper and the ink, you know.

The "gilt" on the paper edges and spine of the books was done with gold glitter embossing powder, and I tried to color the covers to look a little worn, like a good book that's been read many times would be--although I do try to keep real books in tip-top condition. ;) The Distress Ink around the inside of the die is Spun Sugar, and the gold edge was made with a gold opaque marker to go along with the gilted edge books.

Deck the Halls

Hi friends! I've got another challenge card, of course, for three challenges this time. Two of the challenges are good for my Christmas card a week goal. The sketch was Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #23. The other two challenges are: Flourishes Christmas Spirit Challenge #16--song inspired; and TCP Tuesday #171, Christmas with photo inspiration.


For the Flourishes challenge, I used Deck the Halls as my inspiration song, and for the TCP challenge, concentrated on using traditional Christmas colors and focused on decorations and ornaments.

I turned the sketch sideways, and when I did it, I had a very logical reason for it, but now I can't think of what that might have been. It would have worked just as well as a tall card. The first paper I used is of pine branches and holly with red berries. Can you see the ornaments on the next designer paper? I didn't want to cover them up too much, so I used a lattice border punch rather than something solid under the ribbon. I colored the stamp with Copics and used a silver Sharpie opaque marker for the little snowflake ornament that sits on the bow. I used Glossy Accents on the ornaments, but I'm not sure you can tell in the photo. Even close up, it was hard to photograph. That might not be a bad thing. I had to re-apply the Glossy Accents three times on the green ornament because I kept brushing my hand against it. It might be a little bit smushed. 8~D The sentiment was printed on the computer then cut out with a Spellbinders die.

You can see the pine and holly paper better on the inside of the card. It's really pretty paper. It deserves a card all by itself. For this sentiment, after I stamped "Seasons Greetings," it looked kind of bare, so I searched around and found the sparkle stamp in Flourishes' Make a Wish set. I love it when a stamp company includes little accent stamps in their sets. They are so versatile.

Okay, my card is made and photographed, my post is written, and I've cleaned up. I know I must have forgotten something because it's not dark outside yet. Normally, after doing all that, it would be after midnight. I'm sure it will come to me as soon as I hit "publish." ;)

SSC22

The first day of school ritual went off without a hitch this morning. My daughter is excited to be back with all her friends and is thrilled with her new teacher--a good way to start the school year. :D I'm hoping, with her back in school, I'll be able to make cards and post to my blog during the day, rather than in the middle of the night. When I don't get in bed until 3 a.m., 6:30 comes around awfully quick!

The card I'm sharing with you today is for the Sketchbook Saturday challenge #22--a great sketch, with lots of different elements to play with.

The background paper I chose is from the K&Co Abrianna stack. I love the way all the colors in this particular pattern compliment each other so well. That also made it easy to choose other papers to go with it. When I cut the sentiment layer out, I left it in the die and lightly sponged Wild Honey Distress Ink over the embossed areas and just inside the edges before stamping the sentiment, and I sponged the same Wild Honey ink over the edges of all the yellow papers. Other than that, I didn't use any other ink on the front of the card.

On the inside of the card, in addition to sponging the edges of the yellow paper, I sponged the edge of the patterned paper with Concord Grape Distress Ink just enough to define the sides, and also on the Fleur de Lis accent at the top, and used the dark purple cardstock as a tiny border at the top edge.

The stamps are from Flourishes. I love their sentiment stamps. The letters are always so crisp--even on this cardstock, which is slightly textured. And, isn't that font lovely?

Enjoy the moment

Hi, again! It took me longer than I expected to get this post out, but here it is. This card is for the Sketchbook Saturday Challenge # 21.

I enjoyed working on this card. The sketch was interesting with all the layers and I got to use another new stamp set from Flourishes: Kids at Play. I love silhouettes (wow, I actually spelled that right without looking it up :), especially of children, and the one I used on this particular card looks just like my daughter, from the curly ponytail and little fluff of hair sticking up in the front, to the girly way she's holding her dress out.

Isn't that stamp adorable? I like it so much, I used it inside the card too.
