Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge #135: What???

Hi Blog Friends! Can you believe it's already Tuesday again? Wow, the days really fly by, don't they? But, I love Tuesdays because it means we have another sketch for you at Tuesday Morning Sketches! I can't wait to show you the card I made with this week's awesome sketch, created by our own Melissa.

Digi Doodle Shop is sponsoring the challenge this week, and I used the most adorable Digi Doodle image for my card. It's called Twitty Diddle. He's a bird, maybe a pelican, and he appears to be just a little surprised, or maybe worried. Whatever he is, I love his expression. I colored him with Copics and used Glossy Accents on his eyes.


And, here's how I interpreted that deer-in-the-headlights look:

Whaaat?!? Don't you know that's what he's thinking? I had such fun with this card! I sewed all the layers down, cut the Fancy Tag out of chipboard, coated it with Mod Podge, then sprinkled it heavily with glitter and sprayed it with a clear gloss to keep the glitter from flaking off. I put Liquid Pearl dots on the perimeter of the image and popped it up onto the glittered tag, then popped the entire thing up on the card.

For the sentiment, I cut the letters with my Alpha Bubbles dies, colored them with a Martha Stewart glitter marker, then adhered them to the card with glue.

Here's a look at the popped up layers.

For the inside, I printed the sentiment, in a dark brown, onto a transparency and rubbed it onto white cs. I colored in the letters with Copics, in a gradient pattern of three shades of blue, then added Diamond Stickles for sparkle. I attached a scrap of dp left over from the front of the card and added Liquid Pearls to the motifs. The yellow doodling just above the dp is hand drawn with a fine tip marker. On a piece of blue cs, I scored lines along the edges, adhered the sentiment panel to it, then glued it into the card.

I can think of a dozen occasions for which I could send this card, for everything from encouragement to congratulations--even for a birthday! And, little Twitty Diddle is so stinking cute, I know he'd add a smile to someone's day.

FTTC157: Corner Bookmark

Hello Friends! Quick post here today. The challenge this week for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday is to create a corner bookmark--yet another project I've never made, but I can't imagine why not. It was easy, and fun.










My color palette is from the Color Throwdown #180 challenge. This is such a nice, soothing palette.





Here's my bookmark:

I used Beate's SCS video tutorial as a guide to making the bookmark. I sewed dp to the bookmark base before folding the edges down in the back, then added ribbon, Liquid Pearls, and Stickles.

I used a silhouette from Flourishes' Sweet Days of Summer stamp set for my image. I love that it's a girl reading, and the tree fit into the circle die cut perfectly. It's embossed with Chocolate embossing powder, then I sponged Distress Ink for the ground and sky, and used Flower Soft for the grass and flowers in the tree, and Sparkly Fluff for the ground under the tree.

The sentiment on the back of the bookmark is from the same stamp set as the silhouette.

My DD saw this and immediately called dibs on it. :) My entire family are readers, but, even at seven years old, my DD is the most avid reader, so she probably would have gotten this anyway, but I'm glad she liked it so much she requested it herself.

I used Lily Pad's Virginia's View Challenge #2 as my inspiration for the colors and part of the design. I couldn't resist when I saw all those dots. Liquid Pearls and Stickles are two of my best friends lately! :)

The image is a Pixie Dust Studio digital stamp called Laurel Wings. Isn't she sweet? I had such fun coloring her with my Copics and adding Stickles to her wings and flowers. And, take a look at all those dots!!!

Flourishes Timeless Tuesday--FTTC153: Head Over Heels

Hi Friends, and Happy Tuesday to you! Don't you just love a good challenge? I know I do, and this week's Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge, FTTC153, is a great one.

Cindy has asked us to create a center stair step card, and like the tri-fold card a few weeks ago, this was something I'd never done before. I've always been a little intimidated by all those complicated looking folds and cuts. I even skipped a challenge once just because I would have had to make a center step card. Well, being the Guest Designer for FTTC this month, I didn't have the luxury to skip the challenge this time, and I'm so glad, because it's a fantastic card base to work with, and way easier than I ever imagined. If you've never made one, just visit the SCS center step card tutorial. I promise you, it's easy peasy, and really impressive to your non-cardmaking friends. :D And, if you enter it in the Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC153) this week, you even have a chance to boost your stamp inventory with a Flourishes gift certificate!

Here's mine all decked out:

Isn't that just the coolest card? I love all the angles and openings. I used the TCP Tuesday 193 color challenge palette of pale pink, melon, and brown and the Lace Heart stamp from Flourishes to turn it into a Valentine card, which fits the Paper Pretties Monday Challenge PPMC23, also.

I started with a melon card base, then covered the side panels with pale pink cs, then brown cs, then a striped dp that matched the TCP Tuesday 193 colors. The edges of the striped paper are sponged with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink. For a little interest, I put three clear gems on each side, also.

The bottom panel is just a strip of pink and white glitter cs, sponged along the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink that is trimmed with a length of brown cotton lace. It didn't seem sturdy enough to me when opening the card, so there is a matching strip of the pink and white cs mounted on brown cs on the reverse side. 

For the main, center panel of the card, I zigzagged the brown dp to a pale pink cs, then glued a glittered chipboard flourish to the lower left corner. (Whoo Hoo! Paper Pretties Wednesday Challenge 189 is to use glitter on your card-I'm in!) I heat embossed the Lace Heart design with chocolate embossing powder onto pale pink cs, cut it out with a Spellbinders Classic Heart die, sponged Victorian Velvet Distress Ink on the edges while it was still in the die, sponged Walnut Stain Distress Ink just on the edges of the heart, then filled the little center heart with Glossy Accents. After that dried, I covered it with a thin coat of Glam Pink Stickles.

The Lace Heart is lifted up with two layers of crimped scrap cs (rather than pop dots) onto a brown scalloped heart that I edged with a gold opaque marker. That was then popped up with foam dots over the chipboard flourish.

I tied a bow through the jump ring of a metal charm, placing the charm slightly over the edge of the heart and used pop dots under the corner of the charm to hold it in place. I've never seen anyone hot glue the knots of bows in tutorials, but I usually try to put a little bit on the back of mine to keep it from untying and to hold it in place on the card, then I secured the ends of the twine on the back of the cs with more hot glue. Finally, I attached the entire panel to the card base.

For the inside, I cut a Fleur de Lis Rectangle out of brown cs and put Liquid Pearl dots along the edges, then cut a rectangle of pale pink cs, which I stamped with the Elizabeth Barrett Browning verse from the same Lace Heart stamp set. There is a teeny little heart on the "H" and I filled that with Crystal Stickles.

When I started this card, I thought it might work as a masculine card with the striped side panels and heavy brown lace, but I guess with all that pink...not so much. :) I do like that it's feminine without being frilly, though.

Flourishes Timeless Tuesday--FTTC150: Life Without Love

I've been sitting on some exciting news for over two months and I can finally tell you...Flourishes asked me to be their January Timeless Tuesday Guest Designer! I was beyond thrilled when I got the email from Tammy, inviting me to be a temporary member of that fabulous design team! And, you are going to love the challenges they have lined up for this month!

This week, Mona is our hostess, and her challenge is to create a tri-fold card. Well, wouldn't you know it, right off the bat, something I've never done. :) I wasn't even sure what constituted a tri-fold card. If you are in the dark on that, too, there is a fab tutorial on SCS. Once I saw that, it was a piece of cake, and so much fun, too. I decorated four different panels on my card, so I have a lot of photos to show you. I'm not going into too many details on how I made the card, but if you want any other information on it, just leave me a comment and I'll get back to you. Well, here goes...

I used the gorgeous Flourishes stamp set, Berry Sweet, as my main focus on the card, colored the raspberries up with Copics and added some white highlights with an opaque pen. These are the Copic colors I used.

For the front of the card, I stamped, colored, and fussy cut the leaf from the Berry Sweet set, then stamped and colored it again on the sentiment panel. I popped the fussy cut leaf up on the sentiment panel with foam dots. I left the single raspberry uncolored because the sentiment talks about a tree without fruit, and I wanted this card to tell a story.  I hand-cut the shaped edge of the front panel, used an embossing folder for just that panel, then edged it with a gold opaque pen.

When the card is untied and opened, this is what you see:

In keeping with the "story" progression, the raspberries here are colored, although they are each single, not part of a plant. I used the Holly Accents die cut with some Shimmer Spritz and a Pearl Pen to jazz this panel up a little bit and give it more life.

The next panel you see is the main one--the bunch of raspberries on a stem:

I used the out of the box technique for this die cut so I wouldn't lose the edge of the stamped image, and the beautiful dp behind it is from My Mind's Eye. I added lots of gold pearls with a Pearl Pen, as well as lavender Liquid Pearl dots. I wanted this panel to be a big contrast to the front, pale, unadorned panel.

The final panel is the conclusion to the "story." Here, I used stamps from the April Showers set and from the Hearts & Flowers set. "Je t'aime" is French for "I Love You." The French have a lot of ways to say that, depending on the degree of love that is intended to be expressed. I think this particular phrase is for the strongest love--romantic love. The pale lavendar stamp on this panel is the same as the large raspberry stamp--just smaller.

Just For You, Cupcake

Hi there, Blog Friends! How's your week starting off? Aside from the weather turning wet and cold, it was a good day for us. I did, however, realize this morning that I've been neglecting my cardmaking lately, so I'm on a mission to get at least the four Viva la Verve November sketch challenge cards made and posted by tomorrow.

My DD will be going to a birthday party this coming weekend, so my card for the Week 1 sketch is a girly birthday card. I used plenty of sparkly Stickles and Liquid Pearls.

At Christmas

Hello Friends! I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. Did you do the Black Friday thing today? I did a little Black Friday internet shopping, but all those big crowds in the stores are too much for me. We took in a movie instead--Arthur Christmas. Cute, but not my favorite movie. And, of course, I made a card.

This one is for the Tuesday Morning Sketch Challenge 121.

I kept the inside of this card fairly simple.
