Tiddly Inks New Ewe Release Boxed Card Set

Friday, December 5, 2014

I adore making boxed card sets, especially when I have a fabulous set of stamps that coordinate perfectly, and Christy, at Tiddly Inks, has just released seven--YES SEVEN--Tiddly Inks sheep stamps that are adorable individually, but that are also just right for a card set! To top that off, every single one has a sentiment built right in! And, since they are sheep, there was very little coloring required. BAAA-AM! This sweet card set practically made itself!
I made 8 cards for this set, using the Thank Ewe image on two cards, colored differently. For the box, I modified this tutorial, which I used in another card set almost two years ago. I used the curly D'Vine Swirls embossing folder for the side panels, and inside back of the box, to go along with the sheep theme. The cards are all 3.5" x 5.5", and I made white envelopes for them with an envelope punch board. (A card recipe for the set is at the bottom of the post.) For the cards and the box, I used Recollections 110 lb. cardstock, which is the heaviest cardstock I've found, even among other 110 lb. cardstock brands. (If I had needed to do more coloring, I would probably have used X-Press It Blending Card for the images, colored them, then mounted them to the front of 110 lb. card bases, but the extra step wasn't necessary for these cards.)

Here are pics of the individual cards. I have to apologize for the yucky colors. White cards are my Waterloo! I can never get the color right when photographing them, and when I start editing them in my photo program, they turn out all different colors, depending on what other colors are on the cards. So, so frustrating. Trust me when I say that every card is the same beautiful, bright white, and the colors are vivid and crisp. ;)
Happy Baaa-Day to Ewe. Diamond Stickles are on each of the little notes, and Black Wink of Stella gives the little sheep faces a bit of shine.
Ewe Sparkle & Shine. Each star was colored with a yellow Copic marker, then I added yellow Stickles over that.
Ewe and Me. Diamond Stickles on the sweet little star. I think this is my favorite of all these images.
Hope Ewe Get Well Soon. Colored with Copics. The colors here look a bit washed out. :~( This photograph could certainly use some doctoring!
Thank Ewe. I printed this one to cover the entire front of the card. The ombre colored "thank" is a little more intense in real life.
Second Thank Ewe. This is printed slightly smaller than the first one. I used magenta, yellow, and blue-green markers to make the dots, which also gave me orange and green dots when they mixed. Then, because all those dots were making my eyes crazy, I edged parts of the letters with the blue-green marker to add some definition.
Ewe Rock! Glossy Accents give this rocker's shades some style! Don't you just love his heart tattoo? As a bonus, the Thank Ewe image and the Ewe Rock image are together--2 for 1. Who doesn't love that? ;)
Only Have Eyes For Ewe. I couldn't get it to show up in the photo, but Xmas Red Stickles is sparkling on the little heart.
Here's an inside look at the box. The finished measurements are 6" long x 2" deep x 4" high. The front panel is 2" high. To modify the original tutorial, all I had to do was cut the original piece of cardstock to 8" x 10", then followed the rest of her tutorial. This was a blast to make!

Now, hurry on over to Tiddly Inks to see what the rest of our super talented DT did with these images. You're going to want to add these New Ewes to your digi stash for sure! And, you can even use them to enter the current Gratitude and Joyfulness Challenge, too!

The Cat’s Out of the Bag...uuuh...Cup!

Friday, November 21, 2014

It's another Fabulous Friday at Tiddly Inks, and the Cat's Out of the Bag Cup...Tiddly Inks Stamps are Adorable!!! Wait till you see all the cards we have to show you this week! Here's mine:
I used the super cute Cup of Kitty image for my card. There is something about this little guy that just makes me happy! :~D  He is colored with Copics, and I used a white Sharpie marker to make the white dots on the cup. Glossy Accents is on his nose so it pokes over the edge of the cup. I love texture on cards, so I used a bit here with layers, stitching, an argyle embossed background, a decorative border around the image, and a few sequins. The sentiment is handwritten, and continued on the inside of the card.
I don't know if it would have been clear without explanation, but the rest of my handwritten sentiment on the inside of the card is a play on the expression, "The cat's out of the bag." The You're Purrr-fect sentiment is from the Chubby Chums Paper Smooches stamp set. More Copic coloring on the Set of Kittys image, a Glossy nose, some stitching and embossing texture, and I'm done. This was a blast to make!

As soon as I saw the Set of Kittys, I had plans for the set, and pairing it with Cup of Kitty was first on my list! I'm mostly a dog person, but these scruffy kitties are irresistible. Expect a card set using them, soon!

Be sure to visit the rest of the Tiddly Inks DT and soak up some of their amazing awesomeness! And, there's still time to enter the Tiddly Inks Remembrance or Honor Challenge, too!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a Purrr-fect weekend!

Truth is...

Thursday, April 3, 2014

Here's that CAS card I mentioned earlier. I won a cute stamp set from CAS-ual Fridays a few weeks ago, and, as their name implies, it's perfect for a CAS card!
I stamped the image with Memento Ink, then colored it with Copics. I used a gold Wink of Stella pen on the stamens, and clear on the petals. After layering up my ovals, and putting pink pearl pen pearls in the scallops, I added 3 white sequins. Deciding where to put those suckers took longer than the rest of the card! ;) The front of the card base is embossed with two different embossing folders, and they meet on a diagonal. Afterward, I thought a nice straight scored line between the two designs would have been nice, but I kind of like that they fade into each other, too.
On the inside, all the stamps are from the same, "Truth Is," stamp set. I was pleased with the green scalloped border, but it's only there because I flubbed my first attempt to stamp the words that are on it. I originally wanted them directly on the card base, but when I was stamping the final word, my hand slipped and it smudged. This cover-up was my fix. ;)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

You Go Girl!

Monday, March 3, 2014

Hello there! I hope you had a fantastic weekend! I am really enjoying the warmer weather. Yesterday I was even able to wear short sleeves outside without a jacket. It was great! Hard to believe we have a freeze warning for tonight, though. Weird weather lately, that's for sure. ;) I hope wherever you are, you are safe and warm--especially if you are in the path of Winter Storm Titan! But, you're not here for a discussion on the weather, are you? ;) So, on to my card...
I am an ardent admirer of a good CAS card. I love the flatness, the clean white space, and the simplicity. But, I think what really attracts me to them is the illusion that a CAS card is easy to design. I look at CAS cards and think, well, I can do that. And, yes, I could copy anyone's design, but coming up with my own CAS design is a whole 'nother ballgame! So, being one who can't pass up a good challenge, I have decided to make a conscious effort to make (or at least attempt to make) more CAS cards.

For this CAS card, I used Taylored Expressions new stamp set, Doodle Alphabet. The letters are so fun and girly! Having a young DD, going through the ups and downs of growing up, I like to keep a stash of girly encouragement and congrats cards on hand, and this alphabet is perfect for that. I stamped the sentiment on the right side of the card and colored each letter in fun, funky colors, added subtle shading with a C1 Copic, then added a little sparkle with Stickles and my new Wink of Stella pen. The card looked ok with just the sentiment, but being new at the CAS game, I had to add a little something more, so I used 3 different flower-shaped Spellbinders dies and dry embossed them "randomly" in the white space, and added a big magenta rhinestone in the center of the largest one. I think I could have let it be at that point, but...naaahhh. It needed just one more thing. ;) So, I used two teeny tiny stamps out of Verve's Poppy Birthday stamp set to add "random" gray dots on the card. Then, I was able to call it done! I could easily make this card again in under 30 minutes, but this particular one took me about 5 hours, from conception to completion! I'm really pleased with the final result, though! Hope you are, too! :-)

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have yourself a CAS week!

Wishing You All the Best

Monday, February 3, 2014

I hope you had a good weekend! Friends stayed with me over the weekend, and we attended a stamp convention, so my weekend was fantastic!
UPDATE: This card was featured on the Viva la Verve Blog, here!

For the layout of this card, I used the Viva la Verve January 2014 Week 5 sketch, turned it on it's side. The image is a new-to-me Flourishes stamp, which I colored with Copics. You can't see it well in the pic, but I covered the mason jar with Glossy Accents for a glassy look. The sentiment is a Verve stamp. Lots of distressing, wonky sewing, velvet ribbon, and sequins finish it off, and, can you believe it...NO Distress Inks!
I did use a little Distress Ink on the inside of the card, however--Crushed Olive along the edges of the die cut, Worn Lipstick for the cup ring stains, and Peacock Feathers for the mason jar. I cut a couple of file tabs out of the scraps of dp from the front of the card, distressed the edges of them, then stapled one to the front of the rectangle die cut, and glued the other to the back. I tilted the panel just a little bit when I glued it in.

And, that'll do it for now. I'll be back with this week's Timeless Tuesday Challenge in a few hours. Thanks for stopping in! :)

Timeless Tuesday #255: In With the New

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Hello there! I'm your hostess for this week's Timeless Tuesday Challenge! By now, we've packed up all the holiday decorations, eaten all the leftovers, and put another year behind us. Ahhh...Everything has calmed down, and we're back in our normal, comfortable routines. But, as nice as that is, isn't it fun when something NEW comes along that begs to be celebrated?

For this week, I'm challenging you to create a card that celebrates something NEW...a house, job, baby, marriage, car, hope, year.... You get the idea. :)

Around our house these days, we are celebrating a new attitude and a new focus. Up until recently, school has been easy for my DD. She has been able to learn most everything by osmosis--her focus was primarily on "play," not "study." But, this year is different, and she is finally having to make a more studious effort. It's a whole new way of being for her, and she is handling it beautifully! So, to celebrate, I colored up this sweet fairy from the Garden Fairies stamp set, using Copic markers on Classic White Cardstock. I cut her out with a Spellbinders die, using the out-of-the-box technique and popped it up over a circle die cut and a Flourishes' Victorian Oval die cut, which was cut from Spring Breeze cs. The sentiment is from the same stamp set.
I used the same Spring Breeze cs on the inside, die cutting a decorative curve in it, then topped that with a piece of die cut white cs. The inside sentiment is from the Always Blooming stamp set. I just love that the sentiment could be curved to match the die cut curve.

So, what is NEW with you? Create a card to celebrate it and play along with us in this week's challenge for a chance to win! You don't have to use Flourishes stamps, but if you do, you get two ballots toward the weekly prize! You can find all the details for the challenge here.

But, before you go, be sure to click over to the rest of the DT's blogs. I'm inspired by them every week, and I'm sure you will be, too!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

Timeless Tuesday #253: Get In Shape With a New Release!

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Hello all and welcome to a very special kick off to Flourishes' January Release! Not only are we ushering the new release in with a fun-filled Timeless Tuesday Challenge but we are showcasing a set designed to honor Flourishes' owner and founder.

INTRODUCING....

FlowersForJanGraphic

Wisteria, Peonies and Bearded Iris -- all three of these flowers are favorites of Flourishes' founder and owner Jan Marie Caruso. Sentimentally illustrated by Marcella Hawley, these beautiful blooms honor the lady at the helm at Flourishes. Three breathtaking flowers paired with three beautifully scripted words and five accent words. This 4" by 6" set is sure to be one you reach for just to send creations to friends far and wide for any and all occasions!

For the first Timeless Tuesday Challenge of 2014, my good friend, Katie, is challenging us to "Get in Shape!" That is...get your card in shape! Whew! That's so much easier than getting ME in shape! ;-)
Isn't that peony a beauty? I stamped it on Classic White Cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, die cut it using the out-of-the-box technique, colored it with Copic markers, and did my shading with Prismacolor pencils. It is popped up on the card base with foam squares. The card base is from Flourishes Candy Pink Paper Collection (the Sweet Tart shade), and I cut it with the Spellbinders Gold Majesty Circles die, adding a sprinkling of Stickles for some subtle sparkle. I backed the base with white cardstock that I first dry embossed with a Swiss Dot embossing folder. To tone the white down just a little bit, I inked the embossing folder with Memento Angel Pink Ink before embossing, then afterward, I spritzed a silver Shimmer Spray over it. I made a seam binding and twine bow and topped it with a clear button.
The inside sentiment is from the Flowers for Jan stamp set, also. Because I like to be able to stand my cards up, I trimmed a little bit off the bottom of the back panel of the card. This keeps it from rocking or tilting, even though it is only balancing on a small point on the front of the card.

Would you like to win this set along with the other two sets being released this month? All you need to do is play along with us!!! We have a special treat for you today -- two actually! First, in honor of Jan Marie and this very special set, Flourishes' Senior Design Team is joining along in this challenge to give you double the inspiration! As you hop around getting inspired on ways to "Get In Shape", don’t forget to try to figure out….

Mystery-Blogger-Graphic

Hidden among the Design Team’s blogs today is our Mystery Blogger of the day. Comment on her blog and you could be chosen to win today’s set! The more you comment, the better your chances of winning.
So, get hopping, and "get in shape!" And, remember, you don't have to use Flourishes stamps, but if you do, you get two ballots toward the weekly prize! You can find all the details for the challenge here.

Timeless Tuesday #250: Get Inspired!

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Happy Tuesday, Y'all! I hope, amid all the hustle and bustle of the holidays that you've been able to work in some crafty time! Be sure to carve enough time out for this week's Timeless Tuesday Challenge. It's a little unusual, but seriously cool! :D
Tricia Traxler is our Guest Designer this week, and her challenge for us is to Get Inspired!

Now, I am not one to make New Year's Resolutions. So, this challenge had me stumped at first. But, after commiserating with a friend recently, it occurred to me that I am a fairly excitable, passionate, all-or-nothing, Katy bar the door, kind of person. So, it might do me good to learn to temper some of that emotion. If I was a resolution maker, "Just Breathe" would be the perfect resolution for me. ;~)
For this card, I used Flourishes' Classic Kraft Cardstock for the card base and one of the oval layers. The beautiful floral image is from Flourishes' Autumn Blossoms stamp set. I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored it with Copics, and used a Spica pen, in Lipstick, for the centers of the dark purple daisies. I used Flourishes' Perfectly Pierced Victorian Oval die set to die cut the floral image, and matted it with a Spellbinders die cut. The vertical text and b&w rope design strips are some very old decorative tapes. I made the pins that are in the bow. The sentiment is from the Ferns and Fiddles stamp set. It was stamped with VersaMark ink, then heat embossed with a tan ep. Since I can't hardly make a card without sparkle, I added a few red sequins to finish it off.
The inside is a Spellbinders die cut, topped off with another Victorial Oval die cut, which I stamped with one of the ferns from the Ferns and Fiddles stamp set, in Memento Desert Sand ink. In between the layers, I tucked a few die cut flourishes. My daughter thinks the inside looks like a mirror--knowing her, a Snow White mirror!  :-)

So, what's your resolution? Get creative with it, and play along! You don't have to use Flourishes stamps, but if you do, you get two ballots toward the weekly prize! You can find all the details for the challenge here.

Check out the rest of the DT, and this week's Guest Designer, Tricia Traxler, to see what their resolutions are, and be sure to leave a little blog love, too! :)
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!

It's Okay!

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Like most everyone, I like weekends. But, I'm really excited that this coming weekend is almost here because I'm going to visit some stamping friends whom I haven't seen in several months! We always have SO much fun together!

When I go away overnight, I often leave a card for my DD. I'm doing that this time, but this card serves a dual purpose. She has been working on a craft project for about a week, and yesterday, just as she was finishing it up, disaster struck, and now she may have to start all over again. She was heartbroken! So I hope this card helps cheer her up. :-)
I used the Mojo318 sketch for my layout, creating a background using Dylusions Ink Sprays, stencils, and Distress Inks, and machine stitched around the edges. Then, I stamped a Verve sentiment onto a tag cut out of a cork sheet, added some splatters of ink as a "mistake,"cut and embossed a fishtail banner, and added a few cute little die cut hearts, which I covered in Stickles. Finally, I die cut large filigree hearts out of a dark burgundy cs. Then, putting the die cut back in the die, I backed it with a piece of scrap dp and ran it back through my GC with an embossing mat so it would cut the dp, causing the dp to be pressed through the filigree of the cs.
After die cutting the sentiment layer and sponging Worn Lipstick Distress Ink around the inside of the die, to continue the "mistake" theme, I pressed the sentiment panel into a Toffee Crunch Memento Ink Pad, and stamped another Verve sentiment over it. I had a couple of die cut hearts left, so I added some Stickles dots and glued them in the corner. The two thin strips were an afterthought. They are scraps from trimming the bg that I used on the front of the card. I found them under my paper cutter when I was cleaning up later, and they looked so cool, I just had to find a way to use them. :)

I appreciate you stopping by today, and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
