Paper Sweeties May Inspiration Challenge #30 - 'Celebrate Mom'

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Mother's Day is almost here, and the Paper Sweeties Inspiration Challenge this month is just what you need to get cards made for the special moms, grandmas, wives, daughters, aunts, and friends in your life. So, let's Celebrate Mom!

I used the Fancy Monograms stamp set to emboss "MOM" on the banner, which I cut from the Sweeties Wagon Sweet Cuts die set. The individual letters and the layer behind the bow were cut with dies in the Beautiful Little Wishes Sweet Cuts die set. I heat embossed flowers from the Pretty Posies stamp set onto the music paper and added Pearl Pen pearls to the centers, as well as several places on the card. I used Inka Gold to a die cut strip of kraft cs to create a faux metal strip and distressed it with Distress Embossing Powder and some chunky glitter. The bow is made with Cupcake Seam Binding and Cotton Candy Twine, both of which are available in the Paper Sweeties Boutique!

The graphic for the challenge is so delicate and feminine. I love all the soft colors. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get the orange tone out of the photo of my card without losing the magenta, so in real life, it's a much softer card.
The inside of the card is much closer to what the card looks like in person. The sentiments came from the So Sweet of You stamp set. I stamped them more than once to get a shadow effect.

Mother's Day Blessings

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Happy Mother's Day to all you crafty moms out there! I hope today has been special for you. I spent the day re-organizing my craft room because my daughter gave me a new cabinet with lots of drawers in it for Mother's Day! I have always had to keep a lot of things on my craft table, but now the things I use the most are within arms' reach and my table is uncluttered! Yay!
It has been quite awhile since I've posted anything. I've been prepping for a class I'm teaching, beginning this coming Wednesday, and I haven't had time for anything else. I think I have tennis elbow from cranking paper through my Big Shot over 2,400 times! Whew! I was never so happy to finally be able to make a simple card before. ;)

This Mother's Day card features a Tim Holtz butterfly image, colored with Copic markers. The coppery embellishment beside it is one I made from clay, then I rubbed several colors of Inka Gold over it to give it a metallic finish. The card layout is from this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I used the MFT Blueprints 13 die set to cut the burlap, green flag, and dark blue background cs.

For the inside of the card, I used the same MFT Blueprints 13 die set to cut the patterned paper and large green fishtail banner. I put the personalization panel on the diagonal to coordinate with the layout on the front of the card.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a Happy Mother's Day!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Mojo Monday 344 Contest
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Five (I used 5 different colors of ink)
613 Avenue Create Challenge #71: Anything Goes
Paper Issues Challenge: Mum's the Word
Corrosive Challenge #199: Banner Day

It's Your Day, Mom!

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Happy Mother's Day! In honor of Mother's Day, I've got a Mom card to share with you.
I did some heavy distressing with my Distrezz-It-All, sandpaper, a rasp, ink, and water. I love distressing!!! All the dp, including the smaller rectangle with the text on it, came from an old K&Co. paper pad. I was following Color Throwdown's current color challenge and needed a rose color, and didn't have anything that was just right, so I went with the closest color, embossed it, sanded over that, then inked over it. The main sentiment is a Flourishes' stamp. The black matting behind it is a Splendid Circles die cut. I love that with the circle die cut inside and the black edges crimped up, it looks like a bottle cap. Neat! ;)
On the inside, I stamped one of the rose images from Flourishes Sweet Nature stamp set, by stamping off once first. I didn't worry about getting all the excess ink off, as I think the darker areas add to the distressed look. I decided not to put a sentiment inside yet, as I think would work for several "Mom" occasions.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a crafty week!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Mojo Monday #292 (MOJO 292)
Flourishes Timeless Tuesday #219 (Black Accents--I used black & white twine, black matting, and a black flag)

Mother

Friday, May 3, 2013

Hi there! I've seen several pretty cards lately that have lots of patterned dp layers, so I thought I'd give it a try with the Viva la Verve April 2013 Week 4 sketch and {PIN}spirational Challenge #55 inspiration photo.

Isn't that inspiration photo adorable! :)
All the patterned papers have white ink sponged along the edges, I did some sewing, and added a couple of trims. The word "Mother" was heat embossed with white.
The sentiment on the inside was created in Word, printed on a transparency, and rubbed onto the cs, and I did some doodling with a red Sharpie and a white gel pen.

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the weekend!

Mother's Day Butterfly

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Hi there, Friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I watched my DD climb her first rock wall--a scary adventure for both of us--but she not only did it, she did it twice! I can tell you, I was one proud mama, watching her.

As for cards, I've been working on some projects for future posts, but I took a little time out to make one for fun, and for a few challenges:

Viva la Verve Sketch Challenge: VLVMar2012 Week2
Crazy4Challenges C4C128: use green
Do You Stack Up DYSU63: use your favorite color
Moving Along With the Times #140: Special Lady
Simon Says Stamp: A Bit O' Green

For the sentiment circle, I stamped the sentiment, then the small butterflies, and added Stickles to the butterflies. The pink and white dots are Liquid Pearls. Can you see the small pink flowers stamped on the pink cs? I stamped those in VersaMark ink to get just a hint of design. I didn't want it overpowering the sentiment. The flower stamp came from the Prickley Pear Mini Birds Clear Stamp set.

I used the Prickley Pear Rubber Stamp Butterfly 2 Clear Stamp Set for the sentiment, small butterflies, and large music butterfly. The small butterflies are covered in Stickles. The large butterfly was stamped with Memento ink, then I used Distress Inks to color it, and I spritzed it with Shimmer Spritz for just a little bit of shine. The edges of the butterfly were sponged with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. For the body of the butterfly, I used a gold Pearl Pen. After it was dry, I folded the curved the edges of the wings down a little bit, added a foam dot to the back of each wing, then glued the body to the card and popped the wings up.

The sentiment on the inside of the card is a Quietfire design. The pink flourish and butterflies are from the Butterfly 2 stamp set.

And, that's it for now. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!
