Pink Dahlia

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

I hope you've had a good start to the week! My DD and I stayed busy today getting ready for school to start back on Friday. She is excited about going back to school, and so am I! ;) But, as busy as we were, I did have a little time at the end of the day to make this 3.75" square card.
I started this card with no idea how it would end up, and I like how it worked out. I used watercolor paper for the images. The first thing I did was put a mask of the flower image where I eventually wanted the stamp to be. Then, using Dylusions Ink Spray and Glimmer Mist, I spritzed the paper, then dried it with my heat gun. I stamped the post card image with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then removed the mask and stamped the flower image there. I put a base of color on the image with water soluble pastels, then used my Prismacolors to give the image more depth. Finally, to distress the paper a bit, I sponged Iced Spruce Distress Ink around the edges of the image layer, then wet the edges so I could curl them up some.
On the inside, I used the Martha Stewart French Scroll punch for the lower edge and backed it with a scrap from the front of the card, stamped the sentiment, and sponged Victorian Velvet Distress Ink along the edges.

Thanks for stopping by...Have a Fabulous Day!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Absolutely fabulous! The flower looks like you popped it up on top of the background instead of masking, then stamping! I LOVE it!!

I am a huge fan of colors, so I adore your card! I love the bold use of color both in the main image of the flower and the background. You hit just the right balance of artistry and it is a stunning piece! Thank you for sharing your talents with us here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog.
